PRIDE – Hath a Fall
Once upon a time a painter named Gorelal lived in a town, Shimla. He was very skilled in his art and felt proud of himself. One day the king came to him and asked to prepare statues for decorating their palace. He made them in no time and he got a big reward from the king. Soon his fame spread and he became a millionaire. Day by day he started becoming wealthy. He made a painting for the king in one month and got a huge sum as a reward. Now slowly he started feeling proud of his work. One day he made a painting of the god of death and insulted him for having such a dangerous face. He also said it is the ugliest face of the world.
During night he dreamt that the god of death had come to take him as he had insulted him and the god felt that he should be punished for what he said. Gorelal was very intelligent, he immediately made ten statues of himself. When the messenger of God of death come to take him, he stood among the new statues motionless. The messenger was confused so he went back to his master. After 15 days God of death himself came to take Gorelal along with him.
He himself prepared 10 statues of Gorelal and took it to Gorelal’s house. He said, “Gorelal is not a good sculptor. He has not made good statues. There is one mistake in them.” He also said that his statues were better than Gorelal’s , Alas ! Gorelal fell in the trap. He stood up and asked the God of death what was the fault. The God of death caught him and said that you are too proud of your art and cannot hear your faults. So you fell in my trap though you had tried hard to hide yourself among these statues but you spoke. Thus Gorelal met his death.
